PSP Commercials
January 7th, 2006 by site admin

What in the world is with the new PSP commercials? You know the commercials with the two squirrels or rats, or whatever they are. I do not get them. The person who came up with those must have been drinking late one night when the commercial deadline was the next day! ;)

Cheers!

If you have ever wondered why Sony put those recent commercials on T.V. the answer is very simple: Sony is targeting extremely stupid people that actually like and understand these commercials. The PSP was already good but then someone had to make a dumb commercial. I don’t own a PSP but if I did I would feel ashamed to own one.

Bottom Line: The PSP commercials suck!

I like the commercials. I really like the one with the dustballs talking about the big guns and the love potion and going “Boom boom, boom, boom!”

Okay. After your comments, I tried looking at the commercials again. They are so weird that they are kind of funny. Yeah, I saw the dustball one. But the portable cheese one….well what can I say? *Laughs*

Rat1: Hey, what are you doin’?

Rat 2: What do ya think I’m doin’? I’m listenin’ to cheese.

    Rat1: But there’s portable cheese!

Rat2: Haha, yeah, I’ve heard that one before. You can probably only listen to cheddar.

Rat1: Nope! You can listen to Swiss, American, Provolone, cheddar, whatever!

    Rat2: Shut up!

Rat1: Yeah I know, it’s like cheese you can listen to outside!

Announcer: PSP. It’s like cheese you can listen to outside.

All these commercials do is exploit stereotypes for a very shallow and uncreative form of humor. Dirt balls with Hispanic accents and Rats with African America accents are far short of flattering. They aren’t funny, they aren’t clever, and they are annoying. Most importantly, they don’t explain anything about the capabilities of a PSP and do not make me want to buy one, and they are rather amazing devices that deserve more than this refuse. Just hearing people say that they are funny bothers me. Not clever, not funny, just stupid trite banter that embodies the superficial top layer of American pop culture and all of its unoriginality and lack of wit. Stop watching Friends and the OC people, don’t perpetuate the superficiality and stereotypes that dominate the perceptions in our society.

Directed at the two people who thought the commercials were stupid. You obviously don’t really understand marketing, otherwise you’d realize that comedy DOES sell. If the PSP commercials just slapped a list of specs up, do you think kids would bug their parents to buy it for them next Christmas? You’re also an uptight peson who just needs to relax. These commercials are funny, even if they are rather stupid. I’m guessing the type of humor you like are puns. That’s right, I said puns. You’re lame, get over yourself and admit that you enjoy these commercials too. By the way, if you’re so original, try using different adjectives when you write. Maybe you won’t sound like a complete lamer. I’d hate to see the commercials you’re putting out.
