Immigration

I started writing this post with the slant about coming to this country legally. However, I suspect there are things that I do not or would not understand unless I was placed in someone else’s position. However, I did find some things worth contemplating while thinking about this issue. So, I will say somethings for the discussion sake. These may or may not be my opinion. I want to see what you think. So, here goes…

I find it amazing that the people who have achieve their citizenship legally indicating that amnesty should be granted to those who are here illegally. This causes me to question to some degree as to how much they actually value the citizenship they achieved. If something means that much to you, would you want others to have it given to them versus them earning it?

I guess this is potentially a difficult question to answer without one’s self being in that situation. I believe the whole immigration debate is a very interesting and complex one. There are a lot of cons and pros in regards to the immigration issue.

But I do believe if you are here illegally, you do not get to criticize or make demands. Because you could just go back home. Also, I ask the question why are not some of these protest not taking place in some of the native countries where some of the immigrants are from. Because that is the place where they should be making demands for things to get better. However, I suspect that everyone has their own opinion…Also it makes you wonder why everyone believes making demands here will help? Look at the current great divide between the haves and have nots. Also, look at the ugly picture that Katrina peeled away in regards to the gap in our society.

Well, what do you think?

Yes, immigration is a very difficult dilemmna to cope with in an overburdened underserved country. However the state of CA provides or at least used to provide over 1/5 of the worlds food supply, most of it planted and harvested by migrant farmers because US citizens didn’t want to pay a minmum wage or liveable wage and benefits for US citizens to do these tasks as well as many others. Our own economy does not meet basic needs of many of our own citizens. Perhaps we should begin by making this country affordable for the majority. no easy task but viable.

Tricia, I have no doubt that your facts are probably correct. However, if no one chose to do those jobs, then it probably would have forced the offered wages to go up. I totally agree with the economy not meeting the basic needs. We have counties near where I live that were considering charging the parent “gas money” for the school buses to bring the kids to school! I have never heard of such a thing. My own children did not even have a school trip, and other things associated with being a senior because the county is in such hardship.

I find it very difficult to believe that if everyone is paying into our income tax system that such things would be necessary.
