I cannot believe the fiasco that I went through yesterday with my DSL provider. They wanted to say my slow speeds (500’s Kb to 700 Kb on a 1000 Kb rated connection. Mind you I usually get consistent speeds of 1000+) are due to spyware on my computer. From using spybot, they were only cookies for pete’s sake! I cannot believe they actually got someone to say that to me. I also cannot understand how that process treats me as a customer. It was not the people in the calls. It was the process I had to endure. After spending all of that time and me using spybot to remove instances it found, and me indicating how the speeds were going up and down you would not believe what was said to me at that point.
The technician/manager indicated to me that should they not find anything, then I might potentially be charged for them sending someone out. I could not for the life of me believe they would actually say such a thing to me as a customer. The tech proceeded to explain why that would be so. He said from their standpoint, it was potentially spyware because the speeds went up and down versus being consistently bad. At that point, I told him I did not want them to do anything for me. Do not send someone out to look at my problem. I do not want you to do anything for me at this point. Perhaps, I will feel different in the morning and I might call back. But at this point and after going through all of this, I do not want you to do anything for me. What I will do is to proceed looking for another provider. That is what I said. Do not get me wrong, he was not a bad guy just the statements he was making to me had me wanting to scream. Would you not want a happy customer? I guess not.
Now the only problem is the provider has a monopoly here. I am now in search of a new provider. Hopefully, there is at least one to be found.
