Immigration

Monday, May 8th, 2006

I started writing this post with the slant about coming to this country legally. However, I suspect there are things that I do not or would not understand unless I was placed in someone else’s position. However, I did find some things worth contemplating while thinking about this issue. So, I will say somethings for the discussion sake. These may or may not be my opinion. I want to see what you think. So, here goes…

I find it amazing that the people who have achieve their citizenship legally indicating that amnesty should be granted to those who are here illegally. This causes me to question to some degree as to how much they actually value the citizenship they achieved. If something means that much to you, would you want others to have it given to them versus them earning it?

I guess this is potentially a difficult question to answer without one’s self being in that situation. I believe the whole immigration debate is a very interesting and complex one. There are a lot of cons and pros in regards to the immigration issue.

But I do believe if you are here illegally, you do not get to criticize or make demands. Because you could just go back home. Also, I ask the question why are not some of these protest not taking place in some of the native countries where some of the immigrants are from. Because that is the place where they should be making demands for things to get better. However, I suspect that everyone has their own opinion…Also it makes you wonder why everyone believes making demands here will help? Look at the current great divide between the haves and have nots. Also, look at the ugly picture that Katrina peeled away in regards to the gap in our society.

Well, what do you think?

T.O. is T.K.O.’ed

Well, Terrell Owens is out in Philly. I have mixed feelings. From the perspective of participating in teams, I say it was the right call. This accounts for where the large part of me thinks. But it also brings up the question, “Can your job sensor you?” In other words, can they dictate what you actually say? What happened to the 1st amendment? Will this eventually transcend in the workplace. When was the last time you were unhappy at work and probably said something that management would not like? Things to think about…

What do you think?

Black Friday!!!

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

I have been watching television, and I first got wind of this on the news. Have you heard of “Black Friday?” Black Friday is suppose to be the day after Thanksgiving where the Christmas holiday sales period begins. There are actual sites dedicated to this. All you have to do is Google “Black Friday.” There are potentially some good deals if these rumors are true. However, do not get sucked in by the rebates. Make sure you read the fine print! More importantly…DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY! ;)

Cheers!

Dooced 2!

Tuesday, March 8th, 2005

I find this truly amazing.  As I scour the Web, I keep running across these articles relating to people being fired over blogging.  My latest encounter was over at the Cnet website.  So what kind of lesson is our society trying to convey?  You can be fired for telling the true, or how you perceive something?  Is not perception reality to the person experiencing the event?  Just think, our parents used to say, “The truth shall set you free!”  I do not believe they had any idea it could also get you fired…sheesh!

Cheers!

Dooced!

Sunday, February 13th, 2005

I just read an interesting online article at WashingtonPost.com.  It talked about how people were being fired for blogging about their job, co-workers, and posting pictures from work.  They even have a word for it, “dooced.”  I was really astounded by what the article discussed.  This is despite the people writing the blogs being anonymous, and exercising discretion by not using actual names.  They were merely venting.  What do I care you ask?  Outside of the obvious this is a blog :), I believe this is not right.  Whatever happened to the freedom of speech and opinion?  I once again believe this is a gauge of our society of how it is deteriorating.  Think about it…How many of you have not said or thought at sometime “I hate my job.”  YOU ARE FIRED!  So, what do you think now?  If you get a chance, browse over there and read the article.  The title of the article is Free Expression Can Be Costly When Bloggers Bad-Mouth Jobs.  It is written by Amy Joyce, and dated “Friday, February 11, 2005; Page A01.”
