Itunes with Palm Pre
Jul 18th, 2009 by site admin

I am very disappointed in Apple.  Is this an indicator that they feel threatened by the Palm Pre?  Read this article.

As most of you know, I am more often an avid Apple supporter.  But in this case, I am very disappointed they chose to take this route.  It makes you question why all of the iTunes music is DRM if you not allowed to potentially synch it with other media.  This is also in the context that I store all my music in iTunes.  This is now making me rethink.

Cheers!

Palm Pre

Palm Pre

I know I have not written in a while.  Yes, I am getting lazy and passive as I did previously.  I will once again try to do better.  On to the topic item. :)

I had been previously been holding off on purchasing a cell phone.  However, with a need to more and more turn off the Blackberry from work I decided it was time to take the plunge.  The only question would be what network would I go with and what phone to purchase.  From the network perspective, would it be Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint?  From a phone perspective, would it be the Storm, iPhone, or Palm Pre?  Well, the verdict is and I believe you have already figured out my choice at this time.  Was it the right choice only time will tell.

For those who have not figured this out, I went with the Palm Pre with Sprint.  Part of what influenced my final decision is I really like to try and be technology diversified and not depend on a single brand.  In that same vein, I also like to make sure I get exposed to the various presentations and approaches from different vendors as well.  If you have followed some of my other technological posts, you know I already have some items from the other vendors mentioned.

So far so good.  I really like what I see from the Pre.  The major shortfall I see at this time, is the application store.   If it follows the model of Sprint’s digital lounge I believe it will flounder.  I make this assessment in comparison of Apple’s application store where you pay a small fee for an application once.  With the applications, I have been seeing you may have to pay a monthly fee to use the application.  So, this in turns make the Sprint provided applications more expensive.

Along with the applications comes the discussion about space on the Palm Pre.  Right now, this initial offering of the Palm Pre has only 8 Gb of space, really on 7Gb because of the OS.

The OS is a high point in my mind.  It is very intuitive.  I believe I learned a lot more just by playing with the phone and using the built in help.

So for now, I would say Pre-it if you have not already done it. :)

Cheers!
