iClip 4.0For those of you who are Mac users, I wanted to tell you about a great tool you cannot do without. The utility I am making reference to is iClip. iClip is a multi-clip board and scrapbook utility. It allows you to store multiple items into your clipboard whether it is graphics or text.

When I discovered this utility, I have not been able to do without it since. I started using iClip at version 3.7. It has only improved from there. If you do not believe me, then take a look at the features that it has:

  • Simplicity - Can be accessed as easily as your Mac’s docking space.
  • Design and Style - Cool hip and modern design just like your Mac.
  • Keyboard History - Allows you to store multiple content items in your cliboard.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts - You able to access various fuctions via keyboard shortcuts for the keyboard lovers.
  • Customizable - You can customize the style of the untility to your liking

I can continue on about iClip. However, I recommend that you try it for yourself. Just click the comany’s link –> http://inventive.us.

I am still saying wow at this Apple MacBook Pro. Wish we could use Macs at work. That computer is calling me. Wonder what it would be like to have one…*Start Dream Sequence*

I can see it right now in front of me with an iCurve stand, wireless Apple mouse, and wireless Apple keyboard. Lets not forget the protection for this gem of a laptop. You definitely have to protect it with a Booq bag Python XM [System]. Skreeeeeeeeeech!

*End Dream Sequence* Then I awaken. :) One day. *Smirk* *Wink*

DSL Provider Part 3

Well, it appears the issue is fixed for now.  It was fixed by the time I returned from travel regarding work.  Lets see how long before something else flares up.

DSL Provider Part 2

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Well, I got up this morning not feeling better but reflective. I say reflective because I thought about what I am paying for DSL. When I thought about that, it started to make me angry. Why angry? Well, let me tell you. It made me angry that I was paying them for a service, and my concerns were being dimissed as those of a ranting “silly” customer. So at that moment, I went back and tested the connection again this morning.

The connection test showed speeds in the 200 Kbs range. Can you believe that? So, I called them back and let them know I was stilling having problems and the results of the speedtest. This morning I did not have to go through “all” of the same hoops. The tech asked and had me to do just a few things this time:

  1. DSL statistics from the modem
  2. Reset your IP address
  3. Power Cycle the Modem
  4. Rerun the test
  5. Are there any other devices attached to the phone?
  6. Are your firewalls interfering?

Trust me, this was a cakewalk verus what I went through the past couple of days and nights. Finally, this technician was able to get someone in the next tier to approve a repair ticket for this. They indicated this would be fixed by “today.” Now why did I put today in quotes? Good question again!

Well, a person from the phone company came out today. He asked me what my Signal to Noise ratio and attentuations were. I gave him a print of what the screen showed. They numbers were close to each other. I believe like 5.5 and 6.0 respectiveley. Once I gave him that information, he then proceeded to check the connection externally. He gave me a thumbs down! He asked had I been having any prior problems. Then he said those magical words that had my self confidence rejuvenated. He said, “The port is bad.” At this point, I had resounding “I told you so’s” going through my head. He also indicated there was nothing that could be done today since it was Sunday (remember the fixed today statement). He indicated it would be fixed tomorrow.  I told him he would believe what I had to go through the past couple of days to convince someone there was an issue.  He said, “Yes, I can.”

So, I was put through all of that for the phone company person to confirm what I had been tring to explain the helpdesk technicians for the past two days. “THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG!” But I guess because I was a home user that it was assumed I was clueless. So, once again I cannot believe what I was put through. They need to fix their process.

I will keep providing updates for this until it is resolved.

Cheers!

DSL Provider

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

I cannot believe the fiasco that I went through yesterday with my DSL provider. They wanted to say my slow speeds (500’s Kb to 700 Kb on a 1000 Kb rated connection. Mind you I usually get consistent speeds of 1000+) are due to spyware on my computer. From using spybot, they were only cookies for pete’s sake! I cannot believe they actually got someone to say that to me. I also cannot understand how that process treats me as a customer. It was not the people in the calls. It was the process I had to endure. After spending all of that time and me using spybot to remove instances it found, and me indicating how the speeds were going up and down you would not believe what was said to me at that point.

The technician/manager indicated to me that should they not find anything, then I might potentially be charged for them sending someone out. I could not for the life of me believe they would actually say such a thing to me as a customer. The tech proceeded to explain why that would be so. He said from their standpoint, it was potentially spyware because the speeds went up and down versus being consistently bad. At that point, I told him I did not want them to do anything for me. Do not send someone out to look at my problem. I do not want you to do anything for me at this point. Perhaps, I will feel different in the morning and I might call back. But at this point and after going through all of this, I do not want you to do anything for me. What I will do is to proceed looking for another provider. That is what I said. Do not get me wrong, he was not a bad guy just the statements he was making to me had me wanting to scream. Would you not want a happy customer? I guess not.

Now the only problem is the provider has a monopoly here. I am now in search of a new provider. Hopefully, there is at least one to be found.
